Housing Support Worker BANK Adferiad Recovery

£10.25 basic + 1.24 annual leave accrual per hour per hour / Rhan Amser

Salary: £10.25 per hour basic, plus £1.24 annual leave accrual
Based at: Llanelli

If you would like to improve the lives of people with mental health needs by providing one-to-one support to equip them with the skills, knowledge, and coping strategies to ensure their own well-being, then this is the role for you.

Under the direction of the Service Manager, the post holder will work as part of a team to support occupants in line with Adferiad Recovery’s principles of empowerment, self-management, and recovery.

These services support individuals with a serious mental illness and are delivered either in a shared accommodation, supported housing setting in Llanelli or in people’s own homes in the locality. The aim of the staff team therefore, will be to encourage and enable clients to reach a greater level of independence and be able to move-on into more independent living in the community. The housing service works to a shift pattern which includes unsocial hours and sleep-ins.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

· Supporting and assisting occupants with the following:

o feeling secure within their home

o increasing independent living skills

o using appliances safely, undertaking routine and minor domestic repairs, and maintaining reasonable domestic standards

o personal finance, budgeting, and accessing benefits

o mental and physical healthcare

o self management of medication

o attending appointments

o managing visitors safely and their access to an individual’s property

o building and maintaining relationships with neighbours, families, friends, professionals ▪ developing skills and interests

o pursuing training/educational/employment goals and aspirations

o pursuing leisure/recreational goals and interests

o developing links with the local community-based resources and opportunities

· signposting, joint work and referral on to other specialist agencies, intervening in a crisis situation

· recognition of and coping strategies in respect of risk, triggers and avoiding relapse

· housing move-on planning and arrangements from the housing project (resettlement activities)

· promoting recovery

Person Criteria:

There are no specific qualifications but there must be evidence of commitment to personal and career development relevant to the post. An NVQ/QCF in Health and Social Care Level 2 would provide some evidence of competence for the post and all staff would be required to hold or complete this as part of their employment.

A full driver’s licence with access to a vehicle for work purposes is essential for this role, and applicants will need to have at least one of the following professional or personal experiences:

· Experience of providing care and support services to people with a serious mental illness. OR
· Experience of providing care and support services within a social care setting. OR
· A significant experience of personally using mental health services in a serious mental health setting. OR
· A significant experience of caring for someone using mental health services in a serious mental illness service setting. OR
· Experience working as a volunteer on a regular weekly basis with people with a serious mental illness.
