INTERNAL JOB. This vacancy is only available to Torfaen County Borough Council (TCBC) employees and agency workers currently engaged with TCBC.
Are you passionate about making a positive difference to children and families? We are looking for a Community Support Worker to join our Child Protection / Court Team, working alongside social workers to safeguard children aged 0–15 who are subject to child protection planning or public law care proceedings.
Using a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach, you will build trusting relationships with children and families, undertake direct work and additional visits, and provide practical support to help families make lasting change. You will promote children’s safety, stability and well-being while ensuring their wishes, feelings and experiences remain central to the work.
The role includes supporting families to put child protection plans into practice, observing and reporting changes that may affect a child’s safety, assisting with safe family-time arrangements, and helping parents develop their skills and access appropriate services. You will also contribute clear observations and reports to child protection and court work, maintain accurate records, and work closely with partner agencies.
You will have relevant experience of supporting children and families, a sound understanding of safeguarding and risk, and the ability to assess situations, identify needs and find practical solutions. You will be organised, resilient and able to work both independently and as part of a multi-agency team, including during periods of crisis or challenge. A Level 4 social care qualification is required, or a willingness to work towards one. If you are committed to achieving positive outcomes for children and families, we would welcome your application.
