This post is an exciting opportunity to be part of service delivery for individuals in the city accessing Homelessness Services who may be experiencing mental health issues. The post is managed by the Adult Services Team Manager within Specialist Support Services responsible for Cardiff Alcohol and Drug Team and the City Centre Social Work Team. The postholder will work alongside colleagues in Adult Services City Centre Social Work Team which is part of Specialist Support Services, and you will be liaising with the Homelessness Multi-Disciplinary Team.

About the job

The role requires that you are a Registered Social Worker with Social Care Wales and that you have experience of working with people with mental health difficulties.  You will also be required to be an Approved Mental Health Professional. You will be undertaking assessments with people with mental health difficulties living in Homelessness provision in the city and liaising closely with colleagues in the Council’s Homelessness MDT. This will require close multi- agency and multi-professional working with colleagues from Community Mental Health Teams, Adult Services and Homelessness as well as other agencies and colleagues. You will be required to practice in an outcome-focussed manner and will undertake some direct work with individuals as well as providing an advisory role to colleagues within the Homelessness Multi-Disciplinary Team.

As an Approved Mental Health Practitioner, you will be required to undertake duties on a rota basis which supports the Cardiff Council AMHP Hub.

You will be required to work in a Strengths-Based manner with adults supporting them to maximise their independence. You will be required to work within the Social Services and Well-Being Act (Wales) 2014 Legislation, the Mental Health Act 1983: amended in 2007 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 Legislation. You will be required to prepare for and attend meetings where decision-making is required.

What We Are Looking For From You

1. Experience of working with adults and /or young people with complex needs and mental health difficulties.
2. Commitment to excellent practice with individuals, families, Carers and Communities.
3. Assessment skills and a clear understanding of the Social Services and Wellbeing Act (Wales) 2014, Mental Health Act (1983,2007), Mental Capacity Act 2005 Legislation and Wales Safeguarding Procedures.
4. Excellent communication skills both written, verbal and non-verbal and the ability to engage positively with young adults with care and support needs.
5. A commitment to partnership working and multi-professional working to promote good outcomes for all young adults.
6. A commitment to working in a Strengths-Based way with individuals.
7. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of citizens is an expectation of all who work in the service area.

The ability to speak other languages, in particular Welsh, and Community Languages would be an advantage.

Additional information

This post is permanent, part time and will work 18.5 hours per week

With effect from the 1^st April 2021 this post attracts a market supplement of £3000 per annum full time equivalent. This payment is reviewed on a 12 monthly basis.

An AMHP salary allowance will be added if applicable.

This post has a requirement for registration with Social Care Wales.
