Assistant Team Manager Job information Post No.POSN004845 - Assistant Team Manager
2x Full-time/temporary until 31st March 2027
The Family and Friends Team is looking for 2x temporary Assistant Team Managers until the end of March 2027. The post would be ideal for someone ready to take on their first ATM role, or for someone who is already an ATM but looking for an opportunity to gain experience with kinship care.
The team specialises in working with children placed with friends or family (either under a Special Guardianship or Kinship arrangement) when they are unable to remain in their parents care. The team also works with children remaining at home with their parents under a Care Order.
The team is currently expanding as we explore different areas of work, so this is an exciting time to be involved. As such we need people who can work with change, can offer leadership and support to the whole team, and have the expertise to support the team manager and the duty process. In addition, you will be expected to manage a complex caseload and supervise non-qualified staff within the team. There is also an expectation that you will take a lead on wider initiatives, including participation in project groups and forums, to inform better practice within the team. The successful candidate will therefore need to be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the issues facing children in kinship arrangements.
You will have a social work qualification (Degree, DipSW, CQSW) with significant post qualifying experience and have excellent skills in child protection and assessment. You will need to be able to demonstrate good written and spoken communication skills and the ability to forge good working relationships with children, families and professionals.
You must be registered with Social Care Wales.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (formerly CRB).
We welcome applications for all our jobs in either Welsh or English. An application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.
Newport City Council is committed to working towards its workforce being more representative of the population that we serve and particularly welcomes applications from people from minority ethnic communities represented (or living) in the city. Selection will be made on ability and skills to undertake the role.
Newport City Council is not currently supporting applicants with sponsorship for right to work. In applying for a vacancy, applicants should already have the right to work in the UK.
