This is a
dual role where you will lead
Child Protection Conferences and review care plans for
Children Looked After, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met. You'll be part of a

You'll play a key role in:
- Chairing multi-agency Child Protection Conferences
- Reviewing care plans for children in care, including those in adoptive placements and youth justice settings
- Promoting best practice and safeguarding standards
- Supporting and mentoring social work colleagues
- Contributing to service development through training and participation groups
- Partnership working is something the service prides itself on, so you need to demonstrate a strong knowledge of working in an outcome focussed way with families co-producing plans that meet their needs as well as professionals.

About the jobChild Protection Conference chair/ Independent Reviewing Officer role is a dual role, where you will be responsible for reviewing Care and Support Protection plans as well as reviewing the plans of Children Looked after.
There are opportunities to work flexibly in line with Cardiff's flexible working policy promoting some remote as well as office-based working. You will need to be able to be prepared to conduct face to face and virtual meetings.
The Wales Safeguarding Procedures requires the Child Protection case conference chair to work with children subject to Care and Support Protection plans and monitor and review their plans. There are also opportunities for mentoring and guiding social work practice as well as delivering some training in line with service needs.
The Care Planning Placement and Case Review (Wales) Regulations (2015) requires an IRO to chair reviews of children who are in an adoptive placement prior to an adoption order being granted; Looked after subject to a statutory order or accommodated with the agreement of parent and Young people in Young Offender Institutions subject to a Care Order or on remand as required under Legal Aid Sentencing and Punishment of Offender's Act 2012 (LASPO 2012).
An understanding of the AFA Cymru 'Practice Standards and Good Practice Guide' and the Wales Safeguarding Procedures further outline the IRO and role of the Child Protection Conference Chair.
What We Are Looking For From YouThe main duties of the post holder will be to ensure you are focussed on needs of children and ensuring they are addressed, minimising drift and checking the consistency of care planning and decision-making.
We are looking for someone who is
- A registered and experienced Social Worker
- Able to demonstrate proven experience in Child Protection and Looked After Children services
- Skilled in chairing, reviewing, and decision-making (mentoring and training will be provided)
- Highly organized with excellent communication skills
- Able to work to strict deadlines and timescales
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Is passionate about children and families being treated fairly and with respect.
