One of Cardiff's Children's Homes, it is located in the west of Cardiff, in proximity of the city centre and accessible by all major traffic routes in and out of Cardiff. The home provides a comfortable and welcoming environment where children feel safe and cared for.
Tŷ Storrie's team offers support to families by providing an individual package of support and care to children and young people on an emergency basis, short breaks away from their family home and longer-term accommodation, which enables the children to develop skills, friendships and gain new experiences.
The team works from a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach meeting the needs of the resident children, young people and their families. We work as a team around the child and in close co-operation with parents and other professionals. All staff undertake a broad range of training and qualifications in Health and Social Care, registering with Social Care Wales.
The team is made up of:
- 1 Registered Manager,
- 1 Deputy Officer in Charge
- 3 Senior Residential Childcare Officers
- 14 Residential Childcare Officers
- 8 Waking night staff.

Senior Residential Childcare Officer to come join our team!
You must have proven experience of working with young people with complex behaviours in a residential setting.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate and have: - Evidence of working towards Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care and Children and Young People Service as required by Social Care Wales for registration.
- proven experience in the role of a residential Childcare Officer
- experience of working with young people with emotional, physical, social, behavioural and complex needs.
As a Senior Residential Childcare Officer, you will play an essential part in providing direct care and effective support to young people in our short break home to enable them to achieve positive outcomes in line with their childcare personal plan.
Every day is different, and you will face new challenges, we need staff members with a can-do attitude, that are willing to go above and beyond for the young people in their care.
We need our team to help recognise and promote young people's individuality, uniqueness and diverse needs whilst providing a nurturing and positive environment.
You must be able to build, maintain and repair relationships with young people and their families. Contributing to the promotion of the young people's health and social wellbeing is essential as is participating in maintaining effective physical, social, and emotional environments.
Senior Residential Childcare Officers are the link workers for education and Health ensuring the promotion of opportunities and achievements for young people for young people's wellbeing.
Seniors contribute to the assessment of the young person's needs, outcomes and goals developing and reviewing Personal Plans as per regulatory requirements.
As a senior, you will demonstrate leadership skills and must model good, consistent care to colleagues whilst also supervising and mentoring whilst also at times running the home in the absence of the manager and deputies.
Seniors must contribute to the home's improvements including the planning, co-ordination and implementation of specific projects.
What We Are Looking For From YouAs a Senior Residential Childcare Officer you will play an essential role in caring for the young people.
- You will be enthusiastic, emotionally literate and highly motivated with the ability to demonstrate a "can-do" attitude and ready to go the extra mile, willing to learn and to share experiences.
- You will have a knowledge and understanding of the needs of a young person and their rights.
- You will be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate and work individually and as part of a team with young people, their families, colleagues, other professionals, and external agencies.
- In order to apply for the post, you must be working towards or hold a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People - Wales and NI).
- Hours of work: The shift patterns at Ty Storrie consist of 12-hour shifts, sleep ins, weekends and bank holiday working. You will be part of an on-call rota (out of office hours) when required. The rotas are completed at least 4 weeks in advance. Overtime shifts might be split, and shorter shifts can be picked up then.
WHAT WE ARE ABLE TO OFFER YOU Generous Enhancements & flexible working hours - There are generous enhancements paid for evenings, weekend working, Bank Holidays and sleeping in duties, additional to your salary. You will receive an additional salary enhancement of 30% after 8pm weekdays, 50% weekends and £41.64 per sleep in.
- Sometimes we can offer part time but mostly full-time work positions.
- You would have one stable base but from time to time your skills and approach may be required to support our other homes. Our homes are all close together and would not involve unreasonable travel considerations.
